Personal Trainer ~ NAPS 2 B Fit Health + Fitness Tip

A person needs to walk the length of a football field to burn enough calories to offset eating a single piece of candy-coated chocolate.*

Does that information motivate you to take it easy this time of year with all the temptations around us?

Does this tip motivate you to stick with your exercise program?

I hope so.

Halloween Candy Aftermath

Out of sight, out of mind.

How are you all doing with the temptations of trick-or-treat night stash in your homes?

Go ahead and have your treat; just do not make a meal of those treats. Try to fill up on the good food first; then, you will have the proper amount of room left to slowly enjoy the serving size of your choice for dessert.

Allowing yourself a ritual will help to balance your cravings, believe it or not. Just think about it and give it a try.

If that does not work for you, then hide the stash or give it away for the out of sight, out of mind tactic.

Best of health to you and goodbye.

Reflection of a Personal Trainer

“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”

Not true in my world. I can and do teach the older generation new tricks; both human and animal.

First, what do you consider to be an old dog? Second, what do you consider to be a new trick?

Maybe the older the dog, the more the dog has learned and there are no more new tricks to learn. Hmmm.

All it takes is patience and perseverance with the right cues, communication and understanding to learn a new trick. That’s all, time and practice.

Time could be one day, one week, one month, one year or more; that is just fine.

Practice until you get it, practice some more, continue practicing until it becomes second nature to you. Then practice some more and you will be a pro.

The same holds true for all of us. Just keep up with what you have learned to maintain what you have accomplished. Believe it or not, I need to do the same thing with my own customized health and wellness program.

By the way, I like my white hair. I also like the gray and white hair on you and our pets.

ACE Walking Fun Fact

Australians walk the most, taking an average of 9,695 steps each day. Americans stroll the least (5,117 steps each day) of all the industrial countries surveyed.*

Let’s get stepping. Maybe Americans put down their step tracking device. I know I do.

PHIT Will Help You Stay Fit

Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act

What does that mean? Here is the take away from the news I have been following for you:

In a huge victory for America’s health, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, which would allow the use of pre-tax savings accounts for physical activity-related expenses.”

Click on the following secure link to read the full article:

“PHIT will help families with various activity costs, including pay-to-play in schools, organized team sports, individual activities, camps, clinics, classes, tournaments and qualified equipment. PHIT will also help adults’ activity, as it includes gym memberships, fitness classes, personal trainers, recreational sports/activities and other eligible activity expenses.”

Yes, we are on our way. The PHIT Act may be passed by December 2018. You will be able to use pre-tax savings accounts to pay for your personal trainer, health classes and other physical activity expenses. This will give you a discount of up to almost 40% off your health and fitness costs.

ACE Walking Fun Fact

The ultimate calorie burner: stair climbing. You’ll burn calories two to three times faster than walking without an incline.

How great is that?

Staircases are available 24/7 to fit into your schedule as you choose. You even have indoor and outdoor options for your stair stepping workout. Haha, another pun; you can take your workout outdoors.

You could even get paid while “exercising.” I know many of you do physical labor and come home too tired to “workout.” Remember, you did some exercise during your work day; so, take a refreshing break before doing your customized exercise program that will balance your body, mind and soul.

Best of health to you and goodbye.

The Latest Greatest Thing

…or is it? Researchers question activity trackers.

fullsizeoutput_1f8f

I previously wrote about activity trackers with enlightenment to keep you safe:

Fitbit Harms People

It is good to question things and ideas; this is what instills knowledge that we use and share for a lifetime. Hopefully, for a long and prosperous, healthy and enjoyable life.

Yes, that is my wrist pictured wearing an activity tracker. I still prefer to go with the old standby of a wristwatch and listening to my body. If my body keeps on ticking, I expect the same of my self-winding mechanical watch. 🙂

I am not disregarding the “latest greatest thing.” I am saying, to each his/her own.

But, for the right results, you want to use the tracker as another tool, not the only device. Get the best advice from your allied health team where you will find your friendly neighborhood personal trainer to supplement your lifestyle choices that will last a lifetime.

Best of health to you and goodbye.
