Merry Christmas~Enjoy the Views

Hippocrates had it right-“walking is man’s best medicine.”*

man’s ~ Natalie’s ~ best friends in winter wonderland

I am ever so grateful for my best friends who motivate me to go out walking, in all weather, playing…or sliding, as you can see everything is snow and ice covered. It sure is beautiful, though. I love taking in the shimmering sights, crackling and distant sounds with cool refreshing smells, all simultaneously.

I also love the fact that I must go outdoors in all weather for the mail. Bills? So what? At least I am getting exercise in all the good our planet has to offer.

During the day, our feet are subjected to cumulative forces that can add up to several hundred tons. That’s right, several hundred tons of force on our feet in only one day.

Does that answer your question about the reason you have joint or other pain?

If I may, I suggest using some of your Christmas and other gift funds for good quality foot wear. Everything is dependent upon a good solid foundation, anyway.

You can further your good foundation with a proper foundation lifestyle routine. That means doing the moves that are beneficial for you instead of general knowledge that has you spinning in circles. What works for someone else is not guaranteed to work for you.

It is not your fault; you just need to have the right and proper program design fitted to your specific needs. That is when I am in my element: figuring out what works for you.

Please feel comfortable contacting me; because, when you are happy, I am happy. 🙂

Best of health to you and good bye.

You may already know that the Mediterranean diet and DASH diet are good for you; but, did you know that in some studies and news reports they are the top two diets to follow overall? These diets are approved by your friendly neighborhood personal trainer, also. 🙂

Of course, you want to check with your doctor or other specialist to find what works best for you and what is best for your goals.

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend

I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving and are continuing the celebrations throughout the weekend.

We all had a great time sharing the labor of love as well as the meal.

I see Black Friday sales and Small Business Saturday sales are going well. Thank you for your patronage and enjoy your outings.

It is actually a great idea to go out after feasting. Remember reading all the Walking Fun Facts?

It is recommended that we walk after every meal; therefore, get up and go out on your errands, shopping, strolling, or whatever else you are doing. Moving around will get your digestive system moving properly, too.

Best of health to you and goodbye.

A person needs to walk the length of a football field to burn enough calories to offset eating a single piece of candy-coated chocolate.*

Halloween Candy Aftermath

Out of sight, out of mind.

How are you all doing with the temptations of trick-or-treat night stash in your homes?

Go ahead and have your treat; just do not make a meal of those treats. Try to fill up on the good food first; then, you will have the proper amount of room left to slowly enjoy the serving size of your choice for dessert.

Allowing yourself a ritual will help to balance your cravings, believe it or not. Just think about it and give it a try.

If that does not work for you, then hide the stash or give it away for the out of sight, out of mind tactic.

Best of health to you and goodbye.

ACE Walking Fun Fact

Australians walk the most, taking an average of 9,695 steps each day. Americans stroll the least (5,117 steps each day) of all the industrial countries surveyed.*

Let’s get stepping. Maybe Americans put down their step tracking device. I know I do.

PHIT Will Help You Stay Fit

Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act

What does that mean? Here is the take away from the news I have been following for you:

In a huge victory for America’s health, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, which would allow the use of pre-tax savings accounts for physical activity-related expenses.”

Click on the following secure link to read the full article:

“PHIT will help families with various activity costs, including pay-to-play in schools, organized team sports, individual activities, camps, clinics, classes, tournaments and qualified equipment. PHIT will also help adults’ activity, as it includes gym memberships, fitness classes, personal trainers, recreational sports/activities and other eligible activity expenses.”

Yes, we are on our way. The PHIT Act may be passed by December 2018. You will be able to use pre-tax savings accounts to pay for your personal trainer, health classes and other physical activity expenses. This will give you a discount of up to almost 40% off your health and fitness costs.

The Latest Greatest Thing

…or is it? Researchers question activity trackers.

fullsizeoutput_1f8f

I previously wrote about activity trackers with enlightenment to keep you safe:

Fitbit Harms People

It is good to question things and ideas; this is what instills knowledge that we use and share for a lifetime. Hopefully, for a long and prosperous, healthy and enjoyable life.

Yes, that is my wrist pictured wearing an activity tracker. I still prefer to go with the old standby of a wristwatch and listening to my body. If my body keeps on ticking, I expect the same of my self-winding mechanical watch. 🙂

I am not disregarding the “latest greatest thing.” I am saying, to each his/her own.

But, for the right results, you want to use the tracker as another tool, not the only device. Get the best advice from your allied health team where you will find your friendly neighborhood personal trainer to supplement your lifestyle choices that will last a lifetime.

Best of health to you and goodbye.
